Vehicle Description SALE PENDING For Sale 1960 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe.
I bought this car twenty years ago from Texas.
This is a California-built car (Los Angeles).
I intended to perform a comprehensive frame-off restoration of it but bought a nicer car instead.
This Impala ended up being squirreled away in the corner of the garage.
Overall it's very solid with nice floors.
The photos make it look nicer than it is.
As the motor has been slightly disassembled and given its long hibernation I would strongly encourage its full rotisserie restoration.
It has rusty rockers just ahead of the rear windows.
I found one small rust spot on the left rear wheel well.
I registered and drove this car from 2000 until 2003.
Along the way I found damage to the frame at the center.
Those familiar with these cars know they have an X-shaped chassis with a two-piece driveshaft.
It appears that the center U-joint failed at some point allowing the rear shaft to bang around inside the frame.
This damaged and, ultimately, cracked the frame (see photos).
It was at this point I decided that a frame-off restoration would be best.
I ended up buying a really nice, solid, straight '60 Chevrolet frame from Idaho, which I will include.
All things considered this '60 Impala would make an ideal candidate for an in-depth restoration or customization.
I will let the photos speak for themselves.
The VIN tag decodes as follows:
01837L200599 0=1960 18=Impala 8 Cylinder 37=2 door Sport Coupe L=Los Angeles, CA (final assembly) 100,599th car built To the best of my ability I have decoded the cowl tag as follows:
STYLE 60-1837 = 2 dr.
Sport Coupe, 8 cylinder BODY VN 26747 (body shell built in Los Angeles, CA) TRIM 841 = blue cloth & vinyl (Impala) PAINT 936A = Ermine White w/black insert ACC EZ WB = EZI tinted glass, WB = ? With that this is a factory-built Ermine White, black stripe, blue interior 1960 Impala Sport Coupe.
It has a newer non-original 283 engine (1965) and a three-speed manual transmission with optional overdrive.
I decoded the engine stamp as follows:
283 engine F05I9GF F = Flint plant 05I9 = May, 19th GF = '65 195-hp, Powerglide (non-original engine) This 1960 Impala came equipped with manual steering and manual brakes.
Also equipped with single-speed wipers.
All things considered it would have been a fairly basic v8-equipped Sport Coupe as built.
The interior will need to be redone to be correct.
The interior was redone in red but was originally blue.
I have a set of reproduction red and white houndstooth seat covers that need upholstery work, but they're yours if you want them.
Any other parts (trim, etc.
) that I have will convey as well.
The wheels and tires shown DO NOT CONVEY as they are from another 1960 Impala.
I will install the wheels and tires that came with the car, which are good for rolling the car onto a trailer.
The vehicle has a clear Florida title in my name.
I will provide a notarized bill of sale along with the signed title after payment (cash or wire transfer) has been made at my bank.
I can help you load the car onto your trailer.
Serious buyers only and no agents or dealers please.
I am retired military but I do work during the day so please be patient when expecting a response to your questions.
Thank you.
